SOCIETY
Special care is taken not to interfere with the existing infrastructures, the utility and communication networks, the transportation systems or the cultural heritage and not to constrain any future development plans for the area.
All the steps of the project are progressing in consultation with the National authorities and the Local stakeholders (Prefectural office, Municipality, Coast Guard, Port Authorities, Fire Fighting Dpt., Civil Protection Unit, etc).
The project supports the local economy by reinforcing employment through new job creation for the local labour and the scientific workforce, by boosting many activity sectors and by providing access to competitive energy.
Special focus will be given to the trainning of the local human resources to ensure that a large portion of the new jobs created can be covered gradually by the local workforce.
The project will also have a positive effect on tourism as a result of the increased business activity, the various seminars and conferences and the visitors who are associated with the project.
NATURAL GAS
Natural gas is more environmentally friendly than other fuels, such as oil or lignite, as air pollutants’ (NOx, SOx) and greenhouse gases’ (CO2) emissions are significantly lower.
With the substitution of polluting fuels, such as oil and lignite, by the eco-friendlier and cleaner natural gas, a significant reduction in air pollutants is achieved.
More specifically the use of natural gas contributes to the reduction of the air pollutants since it has negligible SO2 emissions and 30% less NO emissions, 50% less CO emissions and 70% less MPs emissions than oil.
At the same time, the use of natural gas reduces the greenhouse gases emissions (CO2) by 30% compared to oil and by up to 45% compared to coal.
ENVIRONMENT
Gastrade develops the floating LNG terminals using modern technology, applying the strictest national and European regulation and standards.
The systematic monitoring and tactic audits during construction and operation of the projects, ensure that the Alexandroupolis and Thrace FSRUs are iconic facilities for the global energy community.
